With what was described as the feeling of "hot rocks", Spectator, Natalie describes that the fireworks fell from the rooftop display hitting people on the head with her friends' hair setting alight. She also says:
"We were standing to the right before the Centrale building cheering when the countdown began...the fireworks went off and looked like it started to fall from the sky, everyone started to run."
She also adds:
"We could smell smoke and my friend Cherelle's hair set on fire at the bottom and the children we were with were burnt too. One found a rock in her hair afterwards...Children were crying and one lady had burns on the plastic cover her buggy which was covering her new born."
The number of injuries at the event is not yet known.
What do I think about this article?
I think this article reinforces and alerts the public about the dangers of fireworks. Even though they are attractive to people of all ages and are very pretty, they can still cause a lot of damage as described by the witnesses which can be potentially life threatning.
I think you have chosen a relevant article based on the location and included your own opinion and thoughts in the response, however to create a well balanced response you should consider using the Content, Context, Comparison, Examples and Opinions (the CCCEO) structure, as I feel knowing especially more about the context would have been relevant and would have strengthened your response.
ReplyDeleteThis was a really good post as you included your much needed opinion on a story that was very much relevant in terms of time and location. The post was also very detailed with the use of eye witness accounts of what had happened
