'This Girl Can'

 This advert has a duration of 1 minute and 31 seconds.

What does this advert feature?

Throughout the duration of this advert, women of different races, sizes and ages are all portrayed in the advert. This advert shows them doing things that society may not consider to be normal for girls to do such as play football.

Visuals 

In this advert, the setting changes countless amount of times. We see a swimming pool, football grounds, a sports hall, a boxing ring and many more areas where women are not exactly expected to be. Personally I think the aim of this advert is to show to the viewers that women can do anything rather than being stereotypically known for only doing house chores or looking after their child(ren)whilst the partner goes to work to be able to provide.

Additionally, I also feel that this advert helps females who feel that they may not be able to do a hobby or do an interest because society may judge them. 

Throughtout the advert, the type of lighting and colour that is used is natural which makes it relatable to everyday life and because of this, viewers can also relate to the advert as they would be inspired by the females pushing forward with what appears to be their everyday life. 

We also see phrases which enforce courage appearing and disappering on different parts of the advert. For example, on the screenshot below, it reads 'Deal With It'. This connotes that women should just go with what they want to do and not care what anyone within society should think.

Audio

The main audio that is used from start to finish throughout the advert is the song by Missy Elliot 'Get Ur Freak On'. Moreover, we also hear diegetic sounds of the women conversing with each other between the clips as the settings in the advert change. For example from 0:08 - 0:10, the woman shouts "Let's go!".

Technical Codes

In the advert we also see different types of camera shots being used such as wide shots and close-ups. By using these different type of shots, the viewers are able to see the different settings within the advert in different aspects. They can also see the women's facial expressions and emotions through the use of close-ups as they are all different due to the women doing different activities. 

For example in the screenshot below, this presents a wide shot as not only does it show the woman running, but it also shows the background setting of where she is which is a park. 

 Also in the following screenshot, the use of a close-up here is effective as it could suggest to the viewers that the woman has recently got out of a swimming pool and is taking off her goggles.

The editing used in this advert use quick cuts to show the different settings within the advert. I believe this is an effective way to keep the viewers engaged and make the advert eye-catching.

  1. The structure of your analysis is clear and well organised and you made it very graphic, which makes us want to read it easily.

    You need to expand more on the points you are making, such as explaining how the codes are being used effectively to meet the purpose of this short clip towards the campaign.

    In other words just make sure you have at least two explanations for each points you are making an then relate it the purpose.
