Channel Identities for Terrestrial Channels
Explore and
explain the channel identities for the five terrestrial channels:
o BBC One and Two
The BBC
(British Broadcasting Corporation) is Public Service Broadcaster. This channel
differs from other channels as they are funded from a licence fee, which means they do not broadcast
advertisements in between programmes. They only advertise their own
programmes such as Eastenders and The Great British Bake Off.
The BBC’s
ethos is to be the most creative organisation in the world. They set out to
provide quality and good value for money through the programmes that they
broadcast on their show. They are independent, impartial and honest. They
respect each other and celebrate their diversity, they do this by creating and
broadcasting programmes throughout different times of the day that can appeal
to audiences of different ages such as ‘Eastenders’ at 7:30pm or 8:00pm on
weekdays and ‘Pointless’ at 5:15pm to 6:00pm.
BBC One and BBC Two both divided regionally. For example 'BBC London' and 'BBC East Midlands' etc.
BBC One = popular programmes for a mainstream audience.
BBC Two = a channel that 'feeds' BBC One. New programmes are broadcasted on BBC Two and if it gains viewers in short time, the programme is scheduled onto BBC One.
