The transition from Barack Obama to Donald Trump has caused outrage on social media and protests during Trump's Inaugaration over the weekend.
At the time of Obama being president, his twitter handle was known as '@POTUS' (President of the United States). After leaving the White House, Obama's twitter handle was switched to '@POTUS44', the '44' indicating he was the 44th President of the USA.
During this switch over, Obama's followers from the '@POTUS' twitter handle should've been switched over to his new handle. However, this was not the case due to a glitch which occured whilst the 45th president Donald Trump was given the '@POTUS' twitter handle. This glitch reportedly affected 14 million people.
As a result, followers of Obama were not impressed at what had happened. They took to twitter to voice their opinions on the matter.
Twitter's chief executive, Jack Dorsey estimates that the glitch affected around 500,000 people.
He then took to Twitter saying:
"This was a mistake, it wasn't right, we own it, and we apologise. No excuses."
What Do I Think?
In my opinion, I think what happened definitely angered followers of Obama on twitter as I believe a large number of them are not in favour of Donald Trump being president. This is clear through the Anti-Trump protests that took place during Inaugaration day (20/01/2017) and the women's march which happened on Saturday (22/01/2017).
