A petition for a second EU Referendum is currently under investigation by parliamentary authorities. It has gained of three million signatures.

The House of Commons petitions committee has confirmed that 77,000 signatures, which were added fraudulently, have been removed.
The request for another referendum on the parliament’s official petitions website should have been signed only by British citizens and UK residents. However, the data from the petition shows that signatures are from other countries which include Iceland, Tunisia, and the Cayman Islands. Additionally, in some cases, there are even more signatures than the total population.

Despite Vatican City, a tiny city state, having a total population of just 800, over 39,000 residents of Vatican City appeared to have signed the petition.

On Twitter, a tweet from @HoCpetitions reads:
'We have removed about 77,000 signatures which were added fraudulently. We will continue to monitor for suspicious activity.'

People from different countries have been tweeting that they signed the petition. An example is Mark Mennell, who is Australian and used to live in the UK, used his old postcode to sign.
He said: “Anyone in the world can do it, it seems ... It’s a complete farce.”

Alongside this, some UK residents on twitter have been encouraging followers who are not UK citizens to sign the petition. They are allowing them to use their postcodes in order to let them add their names to the list.

  1. A second referendum would certainly help to 'save the world' and get us out of this mess. However I think that simply going back in the Eu would still cause conflict from people who would want to leave, to save the world it would be best if the Eu was improved to remove people's previous problems with it.

  2. Very good weekly news. Good amount of information included, with images that make it more interesting for the reader to read. I like how you have broken down the information and only included the key points as this makes the story less confusing. Also, it is very good that you have included comments from twitter as this shows what other people think about the issue.
Moreover, in order to further improve, try to include your own opinion on the subject as well as, the reason that you have chosen to include this in your weekly news.
