On Monday 10th December, in the morning hours, police received the following reports in Central London after the time of 9:30am of a man carrying what was thought to be a machete on to the bus.
However, after local CCTV was checked, it was clear that the evidence that was provided showed that the 'deadly weapon' was actually a machete.
Eye-witnesses working nearby the scene say Police arriving 'screaming' up Cornhill before closing off the road both ways and surrounding the bus where the suspect was on board with the item.
Don Graham, 38 said:
"Police cars came tearing down Cornhill and within about a minute there were probably eight or 10 cars all lined up.
"They closed off the road and at its peak there were around 20 or 30 officers.
"Obviously it was a false alarm and people are a bit jumpy at the moment but I think people living and working here would rather these things were taken too seriously than not seriously enough."
The bus was stopped for 20 minutes whilst it was being searched by the police.
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "We were called at 9:23am to reports of a man carrying a machete or sword on a bus.
"The bus was stopped but after searching CCTV it was confirmed the object had actually been an umbrella."

What do I think about this article?
I think this article shows how alert the authorities are and how dedicated they are to their roles of protecting the public from danger and violence. Even though the result of the reports of a 'machete' being seen on public transport turned out to be the complete opposite, it shows that it is always best to be safe rather than sorry and to always take emergency calls more serious than less no matter what the case is.
In all sincerity I found this article amusing. However it is great how the authorities are being more alert and security conscious due to the recent threats and so on. I like how you structured your entry and clearly indicated you views about the paper. you also indicated the source and when the event occured.
ReplyDeleteThis story was quite interesting also funny at the same. This is not the first time an unharmful object has been mistaken for a weapon. I like the way the story is set out as it is clear and easy to follow, in addition to this you have included pictures and the source. I can not find an downfalls to this post, well done Astrid :)
